The roaster's story:

The cherries for this lot are harvested at elevations ranging from 1400 to 1600 metres above sea level, and they are grown in deep red volcanic soils. The majority, about 85%, consists of SL 28 and SL 34 varieties, with the remaining being Ruiru 11 and a few Batian plants. The area receives an annual rainfall of 1200 to 1400 mm, occurring in two seasons: short and long rains. The late crop depends on the short rains between October and December, while the main crop receives adequate rain between March and June each year. The temperature ranges from 19 to 28 degrees Celsius. Timely and selective hand-picking is carried out at Kevote. The cherries are delivered to the wet mill on the same day they are picked. At the wet mill, cherry sorting takes place before pulping, where ripe cherries are separated from underripe, overripe, and foreign matter. Clean river water is used for processing, which is recirculated before disposal into seepage pits. Sun drying follows before the coffee is delivered to the dry mill for secondary processing. The dry parchment is then milled, bagged, and stored in a coffee warehouse. Subsequently, the coffee is sold either through the Nairobi Central Auction or directly to overseas buyers.
